Signaler langs Glomma

Signaler langs Glomma (signals alongside Glomma) with sound sculpture “noise exchange” is a soundwalk that is geolocated and was therefore only reachable at Kråkerøy in Fredrikstad. It opened the 15th of July and lasted until 15th of August. It was available in the ECHOES app to download and it was operative around the clock. (listen to soundwalk further down) The sculpture is meant to touch as it generates sound and the sound varies with pressure and intensifies if you keep holding it for a while. The sound works are made from field recordings of nature and city sounds , and electromagnetic sound recordings along the river Glomma in Fredrikstad. I did these recordings throughout the year, from winter to summer. I have worked with topics around visible or hearable sound and invisible or low frequency sounds that we have to seek out combined with the sounds that take up space in our surroundings. Especially nature sounds in and around the city that is close to the sea and parted by a river with electromagnetic sounds from electrical appliances such as street lamps, parking meters, and other electrical outlets that makes unhearable sounds in daily life.

“noise exchange”

The sculpture is made of aluminum and copper tread, placed on a wooden box with plexi stand with a hole you could put your hand through. It was placed in the park at the beginning of the soundwalk. The sound walk is separated into six stops, marked with posters, and as I have recorded sounds through the year, it starts in winter at Bjølstadjordet park and the concrete site. Under the Kråkerøya bridge and behind the pizza place are the spring parts. And it moved to summer at the stop in the park and at Smertu ferry pier. You could also listen to the soundwalk on a boat as the geolocated area stretched out on the river.

Made in connection with Urbansoundart, for the exhibition “sail in of sound art” that opened 15th of July and with support from KORO
